Wolf-Proof Houses

Last week, we read the classic story The Three Little Pigs. In the story,  the two “lazy pigs” constructed of straw and sticks while their ambitious brother made his house of out bricks. We decided to try to replicate the three houses using pipe cleaners (straw), popsicle sticks (sticks), and Legos (bricks). We broke in to multiple groups and began trying to make a “wolf-proof house”.

The kids worked together as a team. They brainstormed their ideas together and even had a “friendship leader” at each group that made sure everyone was showing the HEART of an Eagle at all times.

What the kids didn’t know while they were building their houses was that the wolf was going to be a BLOW DRYER

Once they heard the blow dryer.... I mean wolf... the excitement level shot to 100! Here are some snapshots of testing the three houses against the Big Bad Wolf!
Here we have my blow dryer appropriately transformed in to a wolf!
And he huffed...
And he puffed....
And he blew the house down!!!

Next comes the stick house!
It blew down!!! And we were SOOO excited....
So we practiced “silent cheers!"

And finally house number 3--- the brick house!
Last minute construction.
He huffed and he puffed... and the house did not blow down!
Even with a blow dryer, the brick house did not blow down!
So the wolf crawled on to the roof, went down the chimney and “ooooowwwww-eeeeee” he fell in to a hot pot of boiling water. The wolf ran off and was never to be seen again!

THANK YOU!!!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all of the sweet cards, gifts, and yummy treats for my birthday! The kids and I enjoyed opening the presents and snacking on the delicious cupcakes this afternoon! The treat was WELL DESERVED after a wonderful Farm Play! Didn’t they do great? I was soooo proud of the Kindergarteners! Or should I saw First Graders!? They are so ready!

Have a wonderful 3 day weekend :)

Stay tuned for some pictures from the play!

Pictures From Mighty Eagle’s SeaWorld Visit!

A couple weekends ago, Mighty Eagle went with Mr. Roll & me to SeaWorld in San Diego with some of our friends. He had a great day seeing all of the ocean wildlife. He especially liked the penguins since we learned about them during class!
Mighty Eagle insisted on taking a picture with some real penguins in the background.

He also hid himself in a GIANT display of penguins! Can you find him?

Silly Mighty Eagle, you’re not a penguin!!!!
The Shamu show was cool.
Anthony, what is the name of this type of fish? They are pretty creepy and look prehistoric!
 Sea Lions
I walked under a shark in the shark tunnel.
The dolphin show.
 Sleeping polar bear!

Please use this song to help you brainstorm some items to bring for Mystery Bags. The item can contain the letter x anywhere in the word! Please have your child “pull out the sounds” all by themselves with the clues. You can translate if needed. Thanks!

Thank you, Room 1 Families, for making me feel soooooo special this Teacher’s Appreciation Week. I am truly blessed to be your child’s teacher! I love each and everyone of my students and their families. I am so proud of how far these Kinders have come. We cannot wait for you to see our hard work at Open House on Thursday, May 28th.

Have a wonderful weekend :)

P.S. We released our butterflies this afternoon. It was starting to drizzle so we did it quickly and I was unable to capture any pictures.

P.S.S. No Friday Folders went home... a majority of their work this week was kept to be hung up for Open House!
